Katie Guild, co-founder of Nugget Savings, highlighted that the pension gap often begins during maternity leave. She suggested couples consider how the working partner can help make up for any shortfall in pension contributions. Molly and Taylor, who have two children aged two and five, have adapted their financial management over time, using a combination of joint and individual accounts. They also set up pensions for their children and teach them about money management from an early age. Guild advised that discussions about finances should continue even after parental leave begins, and couples should explore available support options.
