A Bay Area landlord, Philippe Chagniot, is attempting to rent out the home of his deceased tenant, Eric Bigone, for $6,300 a month. This follows an incident in mid-May where Chagniot, 68, allegedly shot Bigone, 58, in front of the residence located at 2518 46th Avenue in San Francisco.
The 1,200-square-foot property features three bedrooms and two bathrooms, and was initially listed for $8,000 before the price was reduced. Reports indicate that Chagniot spray-painted surveillance cameras around the crime scene and set fire to Bigone's car before allegedly shooting him twice with a Mac-10 firearm. After the incident, Chagniot was seen biking away and has since been charged with murder, according to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office.
In a wrongful death lawsuit, Bigone's son, Dino Bigone, claims that Chagniot killed his father to facilitate the sale of the property. A judge has prohibited the sale of the home but allowed the Chagniot family to rent it out. The property is currently owned by the Chagniot 2007 Family Trust, which includes Chagniot and his wife.
A prospective tenant who toured the listing expressed concern upon discovering the home's ownership and the associated news stories about the murder. "I wasn’t looking for if someone was killed in the lease. My money would presumably be benefiting this family," she stated. A neighbor also voiced outrage over the situation, saying, "That’s such bulls–t. I’m upset, sick." A GoFundMe campaign for Bigone’s son and grandchildren has raised about $13,000 of its $65,000 goal.
