<p>Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) announced on Wednesday that he will not seek to retain leadership positions on the House Oversight and Judiciary committees when the current Congress concludes at the start of 2027.</p>
<p>In an interview with Politico during the Republican Party’s midterm convention in Texas, Jordan stated he will forgo the top Republican spot on both committees. This decision may lead to a leadership change on these committees, raising questions about potential successors when the next Congress begins in January. Jordan has been involved in numerous investigations during President Donald Trump’s second term, including inquiries into Jeffrey Epstein and allegations regarding the FBI-DOJ's handling of surveillance on Republican lawmakers.</p>
<p>“I’m just not going to do it,” Jordan said, without elaborating on his reasons for stepping down from these leadership roles.</p>
<p>He emphasized his focus on the upcoming midterm elections, stating, “If the Left wins, where they want to take the country is very, very scary.” Jordan confirmed he will run for reelection in Ohio but did not provide further details about his future political plans.</p>
<p>During the convention, Jordan also mentioned Sen. Dave McCormick (R-PA) as a potential candidate for the presidency in 2028, stating, “I actually think Sen. McCormick could be a good person as well.”</p>
