Trial Begins in Mexico for Alleged Murders of Australian Brothers and American Friend

Three men have gone on trial in Mexico for the alleged murders of two Australian brothers, Callum and Jake Robinson, and their American friend, Carter Rhoad, in 2024. The bodies of the three men, all in their early 30s, were discovered at the bottom of a well with gunshot wounds to their heads, days after they went missing during a surfing trip in Baja California. Prosecutors are seeking jail sentences exceeding 200 years for the defendants, who also face charges of violent robbery and auto theft. Prosecutors claim the victims were killed during a botched robbery, while the defense argues that there is insufficient evidence to support this claim. Callum Robinson was a member of Australia's national lacrosse team and lived in San Diego as a professional player. Jake Robinson had traveled from Australia for the surf trip and was set to begin a job as a doctor upon his return, while Rhoad was killed months before his wedding.
