Georgetown University Students Plan Lookalike Contest for Charlie Kirk's Anniversary

<p>Students at Georgetown University are planning a Charlie Kirk "lookalike contest" for the anniversary of the conservative activist’s assassination, according to screenshots shared by the school's Turning Point USA (TPUSA) chapter. The event is scheduled for September 10, 2026, and has received over 2,200 upvotes on Fizz, an anonymous social media platform popular among Georgetown students.</p><p>The announcement on Fizz stated, "Charlie Kirk lookalike contest. September 10th 2026. Pull up to Copley Lawn to speak the truth while the cost is high." Georgetown's undergraduate population is approximately 6,000.</p><p>The TPUSA chapter believes the slogan is likely intended as a mockery. Copley Lawn is located outside the university's Healy Hall, which is a prominent campus landmark.</p><p>In response to the planned event, the TPUSA chapter set up a table on campus with American flags, stickers, and signs condemning the contest. There have also been discussions on Fizz about an Erika Kirk look-alike contest, with comments suggesting a potential connection between the two events.</p><p>The TPUSA chapter stated they are unsure who initiated the lookalike contest idea but believe it originated on Fizz, which requires users to have a Georgetown email address to log in. One user suggested that The Georgetown Chimes, a choral group at the school, perform a song titled "We Are Charlie Kirk," which is believed to be AI-generated and was released shortly after Kirk's assassination.</p><p>Another post on Fizz wished a "Happy Kirkiversary" on September 10th, featuring an AI-generated image of Kirk along with phrases related to the contest.</p><p>Heidi Sui, president of the TPUSA chapter, expressed concern over the contest gaining traction, stating, "The TPUSA Chapter at Georgetown finds it deeply disturbing that the concept of a 'Charlie Kirk Lookalike Contest' on the one-year anniversary of his assassination could gain this much traction at Georgetown." Sui emphasized the importance of distinguishing between political disagreement and celebrating someone's death.</p><p>A Georgetown University spokesperson stated that the university has not seen any activity related to these posts and that no student organization is planning such an event. The spokesperson condemned the language used in the posts as inconsistent with the university’s values and assured that they are monitoring the situation to ensure community safety. They reiterated Georgetown's commitment to fostering a respectful dialogue and expressed disappointment over making light of a victim of violence.</p>
