Memorial Established for Schoolchildren Killed in Attack in Minab, Iran

MINAB, Iran (AP) — The Shajareh Tayyebeh school in Minab, Iran, which was struck during an attack on February 28, has been transformed into a memorial for the children who lost their lives. The school’s bright blue gate still displays symbols that once welcomed students, including Iran's map and portraits of notable figures in science and literature. However, the walkway now features rows of photographs depicting the children in happier moments, alongside black banners of mourning. Iranian officials have reported that more than 100 students were killed in the attack, which is linked to military actions initiated by the United States and Israel. An investigation by the Associated Press found evidence that at least one U.S. missile hit the school, but the Trump administration has not accepted responsibility for the strike or disclosed the Pentagon's findings. Recently, attention returned to Minab following new U.S. strikes along Iran's southern coast, which resulted in injuries and required hospital treatment for some victims. The two-story school building remains in disrepair, with classrooms left in disarray. Hormozgan Governor Mohammad Ashouri Taziani has proposed converting the site into a war museum and memorial. Additionally, a section of Minab's cemetery has been designated for the victims, with families visiting the graves. Residents have reported that three bodies from the attack have yet to be recovered.
