Seattle Times and Newsday file lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft for copyright infringement

The two news organizations claim that OpenAI utilized their journalism as training data for its AI models without obtaining permission and that the AI often reproduces passages from their reporting in response to user queries. This lawsuit follows similar actions taken by <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2023/12/27/24016212/new-york-times-openai-microsoft-lawsuit-copyright-infringement"><em>The New York Times</em></a>, <a href="https://www.theverge.com/news/656044/ziff-davis-sues-openai-ign-cnet-pcmag">Ziff Davis</a>, <a href="https://www.theverge.com/ai-artificial-intelligence/895372/encyclopedia-britannica-openai-lawsuit">Merriam-Webster, and Encyclopedia Britannica</a> against OpenAI.</p> <p class="wp-block-paragraph"><em>The Seattle Times</em> and <em>Newsday</em> have also included Microsoft as a defendant in the lawsuit, as Copilot is based on OpenAI's technology.
