Former New York Governor George Pataki Discloses 9/11-Related Lung Disease

<p>Former Governor George Pataki (R-NY) disclosed that he is suffering from lung disease related to the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Pataki stated that he was diagnosed approximately five years ago with restrictive airway disease due to exposure to toxic dust at Ground Zero.</p><p>In an interview with The New York Post, Pataki expressed gratitude for his health, stating, "I just look at it as I’m one of the lucky ones. You know, 25 years later, I feel great. I have this minor residual impact from that time. But compared to so many others, I consider myself very lucky." He noted that many individuals who were present at Ground Zero for extended periods have developed more serious health issues, including cancers.</p><p>Pataki served as New York's last Republican governor from 1995 to 2006 and is among many who have experienced long-term health effects from the toxic dust exposure following the collapse of the Twin Towers. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, also a Republican, has reported a similar condition after being hospitalized with pneumonia, indicating that the restrictive airway disease complicates even common illnesses.</p><p>Additionally, Pataki has joined others in urging New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to refrain from participating in the 25th anniversary ceremonies and memorials for 9/11. He referenced Mamdani's previous remarks and associations with controversial figures, suggesting that the mayor would not be welcomed unless he publicly condemned certain statements.</p><p>Despite the calls for him to stay away, Mamdani has indicated his intention to attend the memorials. Recently, he signed declarations recognizing 9/11 as a Day of Remembrance while also addressing security concerns related to potential future terror attacks.</p>
