Aryna Sabalenka Advances to US Open Quarterfinals

Aryna Sabalenka defeated Taylor Townsend to advance to the quarterfinals of the US Open in New York City on Sunday. After facing early challenges, Sabalenka managed to regain her composure and won the match with a score of 6-4, 6-3. Townsend broke Sabalenka's serve three times in the first four service games, but Sabalenka found her rhythm and secured the victory. "Basically, I was just trying to stay focused on myself and play not only point by point but ball by ball," Sabalenka stated. This match marked the first encounter between Sabalenka and Townsend. Sabalenka will next compete against either Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova or Marta Kostyuk for a place in the semifinals. Sabalenka acknowledged Townsend's skills, saying, "What an incredible player she is, approaching the net. What a great returner: moving well, very brave. You could see how focused she was. It was really challenging playing her."
