Attack by SPLM-N in South Kordofan results in multiple casualties

The Sudan Doctors Network reported that forces from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) shelled residential areas in Dilling, South Kordofan, resulting in at least five deaths, including a child, and several injuries. This attack occurred hours after separate assaults near Kauda killed at least 21 individuals. The Sudan Doctors Network condemned the artillery attack as a violation of international humanitarian law, highlighting the worsening humanitarian situation in the region. The organization urged the international community to take action against the SPLM-N leadership to prevent further attacks on civilians. The SPLM-N, led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu, is a faction that has allied with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and is involved in the ongoing civil conflict in Sudan. Earlier, the medical group reported that SPLM-N forces targeted the Otoro tribe, a minority group in the Nuba Mountains, during the attacks on Debi and Luweri. These incidents follow earlier clashes driven by land disputes and coincide with a ceasefire initiative that the SPLM-N did not commit to. The recent violence has displaced thousands of civilians and is part of a larger conflict that has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and widespread humanitarian needs, with nearly 34 million people requiring urgent assistance according to the World Health Organization.
