Video Shows Dolphin Being Struck During Celebration in Ceuta, Spain

<p>In the North African Spanish enclave of Ceuta, a video has surfaced showing a group of men and boys hitting a young dolphin, which may have resulted in its death, during a beach celebration. The dolphin was reportedly pulled from El Trampolin beach after swimming too close to shore.</p><p>Local residents expressed anger at the incident, attempting to intervene during the confrontation. The video captures some individuals cheering while others shouted in disapproval. One man allegedly struck the dolphin with a stick, leading to its serious injury. Eventually, the dolphin was returned to the water.</p><p>The incident has drawn significant backlash from Ceuta residents. Nadia Garcia Gomez, in a social media post, described the actions as an act of "extreme and unjustifiable cruelty" and highlighted that dolphins are a protected species under Spanish and European laws. She announced a petition for the arrest of those involved.</p><p>Calls for prosecution and expulsion of the migrants involved have emerged from the local community. Ceuta has recently experienced an influx of migrants from Morocco, with over 70,000 attempting to cross the border in July. Although many returned home, thousands remain in the area.</p><p>Some residents are advocating for deportations and stricter measures from the central government in Madrid, following incidents of locals tearing down migrant shelters at the beach.</p>
