Multiple Democratic strategists indicated that while the party technically needs to flip four seats to take control, they believe five may be necessary due to Fetterman's perceived lack of engagement.</p><p>A report from the <a href="https://www.wsj.com/politics/policy/john-fetterman-little-interest-senator-be74e7a3?mod=hp_lead_pos7" rel="" target="_self" title="https://www.wsj.com/politics/policy/john-fetterman-little-interest-senator-be74e7a3?mod=hp_lead_pos7">Wall Street Journal</a> highlighted instances where Fetterman canceled meetings with veterans and delayed engagements with hospital officials, raising questions about his commitment to Senate responsibilities.</p><p>Despite generally voting with Democrats, Fetterman has diverged from party lines on issues such as government funding and foreign policy. He has denied rumors of switching to the Republican Party, but concerns persist among Democrats regarding his future intentions.</p><p>Currently, Democrats hold 47 seats compared to 53 for Republicans. To avoid a 50-50 split, they need to flip four seats, but some believe five is necessary to avoid reliance on Fetterman as a swing vote.</p><p>Democrats are focusing on competitive races in states like Alaska, Maine, North Carolina, and Ohio, while also aiming to retain seats in Georgia, Michigan, and New Hampshire.
