Lindsay Clancy Appeals for Juror Questioning in Murder Trial

Lindsay Clancy has requested that the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court intervene in her triple murder trial by compelling the presiding judge to question or remove a holdout juror. Clancy's legal team submitted emergency documents on Friday, arguing that Judge William Sullivan made an error by not probing the juror, who allegedly did not adhere to the legal standard of reasonable doubt. Earlier, Clancy's attorney, Reddington, urged Sullivan to question the juror, but the judge declined after individually asking the other jurors if they could follow the law. Sullivan had also reiterated his jury instructions regarding reasonable doubt. Clancy's appeal states, "A mistrial at this point is entirely avoidable, but only if the court does its job." The appeal seeks to ensure the juror's capability to apply the law before further deliberations continue. The jury, consisting of nine women and three men, deliberated for over 38 hours before the judge considered declaring a mistrial following three notes indicating deadlock. Clancy is charged with first-degree murder for the deaths of her three children on January 24, 2023. Her defense claims she was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis, while prosecutors allege the acts were premeditated.
