British Trekker Found Dead in Ravine in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan

Alexander Harris, a 30-year-old British trekker from Birmingham, was found dead at the bottom of a ravine in the Paracha Jungle area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan, after failing to return to his base camp on Sunday. Harris had trekked up the 13,000ft (4,000m) Musa Ka Musalla mountain with his friend Alun David Cooper Cledwyn on Saturday morning, but they separated during their descent. Local authorities and volunteers conducted a search operation that lasted over two days, utilizing drones and ground teams. Harris's body was discovered with serious injuries, believed to have resulted from a fall of approximately 200ft (70m). Javed Ali Noonari, an organizer from Harris's running club, stated that the area where Harris fell is not frequented by locals, which contributed to the delay in finding him. Noonari noted that Harris was an experienced endurance runner, but the weather conditions, including mist and rain, may have affected his visibility and balance. The pair had not informed anyone of their climbing plans after arriving on Friday. Khalid Iqbal, the deputy commissioner of Mansehra, mentioned that Harris had declined a guide and police security offered by the hotel, believing he was familiar with the area. Tributes have poured in from running groups and colleagues, expressing condolences and highlighting Harris's love for Pakistan and its culture. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office is in contact with local authorities to support Harris's family during this time.
