Delivery Driver Arrested by Border Patrol After Bakery's Cinnamon Rolls Go Missing

<p>On August 22, a case involving hundreds of missing cinnamon rolls and a reported $3,100 theft took an unexpected turn when police determined the delivery driver had not stolen the rolls. Instead, he was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol while en route to make the delivery.</p><p>Julie Pierre, the 21-year-old owner of Roll & Dough, a bakery based in Sunrise, Florida, hired an Uber courier to deliver approximately 350 cinnamon rolls to the Yellow Green Farmers Market in Hollywood. The order did not arrive as expected.</p><p>Unable to reach the driver, Pierre initially suspected he had taken off with the merchandise and shared her concerns on social media, which garnered significant attention regarding the missing pastries.</p><p>However, Sunrise police reported that no theft occurred. Officer Victor Fortune stated, "The investigation determined that a theft did not occur." Instead, the delivery driver, identified as Ivan Dario Rico Molano, a Colombian citizen, was stopped and taken into custody by U.S. Border Patrol in Hollywood.</p><p>Agents stopped a silver Kia Carnival on southbound Interstate 95 shortly before 9 a.m. on August 22 after a records check indicated that the vehicle's registered owner was an immigrant without legal status, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) spokesperson.</p><p>During the encounter, Molano acknowledged being in the U.S. without legal authorization. The CBP reported that he entered the country legally in May 2021 but had overstayed his authorized period.</p><p>Molano was arrested and taken to a Border Patrol station for processing. The cinnamon rolls remained in the vehicle, and Molano was permitted to contact someone to take possession of it. That person later contacted Sunrise police to arrange for the return of the items.</p><p>On August 27, five days after the rolls were due to arrive at the farmers market, Sunrise police recovered the cinnamon rolls and their containers and returned them to Pierre. However, by that time, the pastries could no longer be sold and had to be discarded, resulting in a loss for the bakery.</p><p>Pierre stated, "We're still out $3,100. Stolen or not, we suffered a loss." Attempts by Fox News Digital to contact Pierre for further comment were unsuccessful.</p><p>After learning the full circumstances from police, Pierre corrected her initial accusation of theft and posted an apology on Instagram, clarifying that her report to police did not lead to Molano's arrest.</p>
