Rep. Suhas Subramanyam Claims FBI Wiretapped His Calls with State Legislator

<p>Representative Suhas Subramanyam (D-Va.) stated on Thursday that he was informed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) that his phone calls with a Virginia state legislator were wiretapped in the spring. </p><p><strong>Context: </strong>Subramanyam described the wiretap as part of a broader pattern of the DOJ targeting political opponents of President Trump, calling the situation "deeply concerning." </p><hr /><ul><li>"They have politically investigated multiple states' Attorneys General and the former FBI director. Now they admit they have surveilled conversations by a sitting Democratic Congressman," Subramanyam said in a statement.</li><li>The DOJ did not immediately respond to a request for comment.</li></ul><p><strong>Details: </strong>Subramanyam released a notice from the DOJ and the FBI indicating that a federal judge authorized a wiretap in early March, which intercepted some of his calls between March 6 and April 5.</p><ul><li>He stated that the wiretap was related to the DOJ's corruption probe into Louise Lucas, the president pro tempore of the Virginia state Senate, who has denied any wrongdoing.</li><li>Lucas' office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.</li></ul><p><strong>Subramanyam's Concerns: </strong>"The timing of this wiretap and investigation is extremely suspicious," Subramanyam alleged in his statement.</p><ul><li>He noted that the wiretap occurred during a critical period for campaigning related to the redistricting referendum in Virginia and while the Oversight Committee was calling for Pam Bondi to testify regarding the Epstein investigation.</li><li>Subramanyam expressed a desire to understand how the information was being used, questioning whether he was being monitored due to his role on the Oversight Committee.</li></ul>
