India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has commenced a three-day official visit to Poland and Ukraine, starting on Thursday, September 3. The visit follows recent discussions between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Jaishankar is scheduled to meet with Poland's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski and Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha for bilateral consultations, as stated by the Indian foreign ministry.
The focus of the visit is on enhancing bilateral relations and exchanging views on regional developments and mutual interests. Upon arrival in Warsaw, Jaishankar was welcomed by India's ambassador to Poland, Neeta Bhushan.
There is speculation regarding a potential visit by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk to India, which would mark his third trip to New Delhi, although formal confirmation has not yet been provided.
Following his meetings in Poland, Jaishankar will travel to Ukraine. His visit to Ukraine occurs shortly after Modi's meeting with Putin during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, where Modi called for an end to the war in Ukraine.
Ahead of Jaishankar's arrival in Kyiv, Ukraine's First Deputy Head of the Office of the President, Sergiy Kyslytsya, mentioned that he had met with India's Ambassador to Ukraine, Anjani Kumar, to discuss the ties between Kyiv and New Delhi, as well as India's role in efforts to conclude the conflict. Kyslytsya expressed hope for continued dialogue with India to translate shared interests in peace into actionable steps.
