Rory McIlroy expresses decreased interest in participating in PGA Tour events

He informed reporters that this is his limit these days, as he aims to spend more time with his family and take more breaks from competition.</p><p>"This is my third week in a row. I rarely do that anymore, and I feel like that is my limit," he said.</p><p>He also mentioned that he will not play four consecutive weeks in the future, noting that his "fuse" has shortened over time.</p><p>"But again, I am 37. This is my 18th or 19th year as a professional, so my fuse is a little shorter than it used to be," he added.</p><p>Regarding his reduced schedule, McIlroy indicated it is likely to become even smaller: "I play my schedule and I'll continue to play my schedule, which is getting less and less as the years go on."</p><p>On the PGA Tour's upcoming changes, including the introduction of two different "tracks" for events and a promotion and relegation system, he expressed a lack of enthusiasm and attributed some of these changes to LIV's influence.</p><p>"It's funny. Like I think, as they've done all this work, you start to realize that the way the tour was before LIV came along was actually pretty good," he remarked. "It was a pretty good structure, and everything sort of worked pretty well. LIV created this false economy where we had to up prize funds and had to cut fields and try to support the top players and all that stuff, which I think needed to happen because that was the only way to retain talent at the time.</p><p>"But now that LIV looks like it's less of a threat, I think the old ways of the PGA Tour weren't actually that bad."</p><p>Part of McIlroy's increasing willingness to express his views on golf and his position within the tour stems from a feeling of being abandoned by Monahan, as he believes his efforts to maintain the PGA Tour's integrity went unrecognized. With rumors suggesting that some LIV players, including two-time major champion <a href="https://foxnews.com/outkick-sports/jon-rahm-leave-liv-golf-pay-massive-penalties-return-pga-tour-weeks" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Jon Rahm</a>, may be looking to return, McIlroy feels increasingly distanced from the weekly demands of a PGA Tour schedule.</p><p>Major championships remain his priority, with the FedEx Cup Playoffs ranking lower in importance. He also mentioned TGL as part of his future plans.</p><p>McIlroy has the autonomy to choose his schedule. However, as one of the sport's leading figures, his decision to play fewer tournaments may present challenges for the tour in attracting high-dollar sponsors, even with substantial prize purses. He seems to believe that this is an issue for the tour to address.</p>
