British Teacher Accused of Engaging in Sexual Relationship with Student

A 30-year-old British gym teacher, Bronwen James, is on trial for allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student while they were watching Wimbledon. Prosecutors stated that James developed a flirtatious relationship with the student and communicated with him through Snapchat to arrange meetings. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) argued that James insisted the student call her 'Miss' during their encounters. The alleged incidents occurred while she was employed as a physical education teacher at Bitterne Park School in Southampton, England. Prosecutor Edward Culver reported that James initially refused the student's request for her Snapchat handle but later accepted it, leading to flirtatious messaging. The two reportedly met at Weston Shore, where they kissed in a car, and later engaged in sexual activities at James' home while watching television. The alleged victim stated that he initially viewed the relationship positively but later recognized that he had been groomed. James has denied the accusations and provided a prepared statement to the court. The trial was paused on Wednesday after the jury was discharged, with a new jury set to be sworn in on Thursday.
