Daniel Leonard, the 25-year-old son of boxing champion Sugar Ray Leonard, was arrested on July 7 in Santa Monica for allegedly possessing a combination of drugs. According to a spokesperson for the Santa Monica Police Department, Daniel and another man were seen walking with a balloon and a large cylindrical container believed to be a nitrous oxide tank at 1:17 a.m. When approached by an officer, one man attempted to hide the balloon, which was subsequently dropped, while the other concealed the container. Both were detained, and the container was confirmed to be a nitrous oxide tank.
Daniel was arrested for possessing nitrous oxide with intent to inhale. He also faced additional charges after authorities reportedly found methamphetamine and sedatives, including benzodiazepines, during the arrest. Court records indicate that Daniel was charged with four misdemeanors: unlawfully possessing nitrous oxide, possessing MDMA, possessing alprazolam, and possessing dextroamphetamine. A court hearing is scheduled for October 12.
Earlier in the year, on May 20, Daniel was arrested in Los Angeles for allegedly violating a protective order related to a previous incident involving his father. Sugar Ray Leonard applied for a restraining order, citing concerns for his family's safety due to Daniel's behavior, which he described as increasingly dangerous over the past nine years. The temporary restraining order was lifted on June 15 after neither party appeared for a court hearing. Daniel is the youngest son of Sugar Ray Leonard, and they have been seen together at various public events over the years. Attempts to reach Daniel and his representatives for comment were unsuccessful.
