Elliot Page discusses challenges in acting offers post-transition

<p>Transgender actor Elliot Page revealed on the "On Film... with Kevin McCarthy" podcast that acting offers have decreased after his role in Christopher Nolan's film "The Odyssey." Page suggested that Hollywood's perception of him has changed following his transition.</p><p>He reflected on the differences in his career before and after coming out as transgender in 2020, indicating that he may need to take a more active role in developing projects and reaching out to filmmakers. "I was seen in a certain way before, and it’s different now," he stated. "So maybe there is something to reaching out to people and trying to create projects that way. But it’s a little tricky for me to get cast now, for obvious, pretty obvious reasons."</p><p>Page made a light-hearted comment about being Canadian in this context. </p><p>Lisa Cusack, president of the Don’t L.A. My Burbank PAC, commented on Hollywood's financial pressures, suggesting that studios should focus on entertainment rather than political messaging. "Hollywood might skew as left as it gets, but the industry is struggling right now and can’t afford to push woke politics that lose at the box office," she said. "Maybe the silver lining is the industry will get back to basics."</p><p>Page noted that despite the lack of offers, his desire to continue acting remains strong, and he feels more comfortable performing since his transition. "I feel like I could maybe do some of my best work now," he said. "I’ve been so lucky in my career and gotten to play some really fantastic parts and be a part of some wonderful projects."</p><p>Page, 39, portrayed Greek soldier Sinon in "The Odyssey," reuniting with Nolan after 16 years since his appearance in "Inception." Page's casting had previously generated controversy, with critics questioning several casting decisions, including his role.</p><p>Despite the pre-release controversy, "The Odyssey" became one of 2026's biggest theatrical successes, grossing over $1.5 billion worldwide by early September, according to box-office figures.</p><p>This success occurred during a complex year for the movie industry. Reuters reported that domestic box-office revenue reached $6.2 billion through August 2, a 15% increase from the same point in 2025, but still below 2019 levels. Ticket sales remained significantly lower than pre-pandemic figures, with 470.9 million tickets sold compared to 747.3 million during the same period in 2019.</p>
