Swiss police confirm lone gunman in rave shooting incident

Police in Switzerland have confirmed that the man suspected of fatally shooting a 22-year-old Italian woman at a rave in Aarau is a "lone perpetrator." Aargau cantonal police commander Michael Leupold stated at a news conference on Wednesday that there is no indication that anyone else was involved in the attack, which occurred early on Sunday and also left five people wounded. Leupold emphasized, "We, therefore, assume with a high degree of certainty that the shooting was the act of one individual." The suspect, a 43-year-old Swiss man, surrendered to police in Delemont on Monday and has remained silent while in custody, according to prosecutors. The motive for the attack is currently unknown, and the suspect was not previously known to law enforcement. Aargau cantonal prosecutor Christoph Ruedi noted that the suspect suffers from "psychological problems". The incident has prompted public shock in Switzerland, where shootings involving multiple victims are uncommon despite high rates of gun ownership. Authorities reported that two pistols and an AK-47 assault rifle were found in the suspect’s vehicle. The organizers of the rave expressed their shock and devastation, stating on their website that they will support the police in their investigation. They added, "A rave should always be a place of joy and love. Never a place where people are killed, injured or left in fear."
