Yohanan, who is a fellow with the International Women’s Forum and has advised the White House on vaccine schedules, expressed concerns about Fauci's approach, suggesting he has been overly focused on vaccines throughout his career.
Fauci, who played a significant role in the U.S. COVID response, has faced backlash for supporting public shutdowns to facilitate social distancing. In response to criticism, he has defended his actions by stating that the situation during a pandemic is fluid and that recommendations must evolve as new information becomes available.
Yohanan expressed her frustration regarding the impact of COVID policies on children and businesses, stating, "The kids who were hurt, who couldn’t go to school, that wasn’t just an inconvenience. The people who lost their businesses, that wasn’t just an inconvenience." She highlighted the long-term consequences of the pandemic response, including educational gaps and economic losses, with the Congressional Budget Office estimating a total of $7.6 trillion in lost output over the next decade.
Additionally, Yohanan discussed her work on a new vaccine schedule, advocating for the separate administration of measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccines to potentially reduce autism risk. She emphasized the importance of parental involvement in healthcare decisions, stating, "It’s about time where we have parents demanding respect, demanding to be treated as partners in their kids’ health and in their own health."
