Bus crash in Egypt's South Sinai kills at least 21, injures over 20

A bus crash in Egypt’s South Sinai governorate has resulted in the deaths of at least 21 individuals and injuries to more than 20 others, according to the Ministry of Health and Population. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning on the road from Dahab to Nuweiba, located on the eastern coast of the Sinai Peninsula, which is known for its resorts along the Red Sea that attract tourists. Initial reports indicate that several Jordanians were among those on the bus, with Jordan’s foreign ministry confirming that 10 of the victims were Jordanian nationals. The bus was carrying a total of 43 people, including 22 Jordanians. Egypt’s Health Ministry spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar stated that 20 ambulances were dispatched to the scene to assist the wounded. Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar has instructed medical facilities to enhance their preparedness and ensure that the injured receive necessary medical care, medicines, and supplies. Road accidents are a frequent occurrence in Egypt, with nearly 6,000 fatalities reported last year according to the country’s state statistics agency. In a separate incident last month, 18 people were killed and 30 injured in a road accident in the northeastern governorate of Ismailia.
