Iran claimed the US bombing during a wedding celebration in Kuhestak resulted in at least four fatalities and over 68 injuries, according to Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesman for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Footage from the Iranian Red Crescent Society depicted significant destruction at the site.
In addition to Kuhestak, explosions were reported in coastal cities including Konarak, Bandar Abbas, Jask, and Asaluyeh. The US attacks, which occurred over two consecutive nights, are part of ongoing tensions over control of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy route. Iranian authorities reported missile strikes in Khuzestan province, resulting in seven deaths and injuries to eight others.
Iran’s military announced it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Iraq’s Erbil in retaliation. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for missile and drone strikes on US facilities, asserting that it struck the Sheikh Isa Airbase in Bahrain and other locations. Kuwait reported intercepting drones and missiles without casualties, while Jordanian forces intercepted several Iranian missiles.
The escalation follows a diplomatic deadlock, with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stating that Tehran would respond if the US returned to previous agreements. Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei emphasized the need for lessons learned from the conflict. Baghaei condemned the US strike on the wedding, calling for international action against such attacks. Trump, in a statement, expressed satisfaction with the current US position regarding the Strait of Hormuz and dismissed the idea of negotiating a new agreement with Iran. Maritime security expert Alexandru Hudisteanu indicated that the recent escalation may not be an isolated incident, as underlying tensions continue to exist. The situation has been exacerbated by recent US economic sanctions aimed at pressuring Iran into negotiations.
