Bus crash in Egypt's South Sinai governorate results in 16 fatalities

At least 16 people have been killed in a bus crash in eastern Egypt, according to the country's health ministry. Another 28 individuals sustained injuries in the incident that occurred on the road between the Red Sea towns of Dahab and Nuweiba in the South Sinai governorate on Wednesday morning. Reports from Egyptian and Jordanian media indicate that Jordanian nationals were among those who died in the accident. The Egyptian health ministry reported that as many as 20 ambulances were dispatched to the crash site to provide first aid and transport the injured. The cause of the crash is currently unknown. The region is known as a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors from around the world. Deadly road accidents are frequent in Egypt, with authorities reporting nearly 6,000 fatalities in 2025. Such incidents are often attributed to reckless driving and inadequate road maintenance. Last month, a separate incident involving two lorries in the north-eastern Ismailia governorate resulted in 18 deaths and 30 injuries.
