A Minnesota man, Mohamed A. Hared, was sentenced to 128 months in prison for fatally shooting a fellow employee, Ahmed Ibrahim Cariif, during a workplace confrontation. The incident occurred on June 29, 2024, in the parking lot of an Amazon fulfillment center in Lakeville, Minnesota. Hared pleaded guilty to second-degree unintentional murder while committing a felony.
The confrontation began during a work break when Hared discovered a flashlight attachment was missing from his handgun, which had been left in the vehicle they used to carpool. Hared accused Cariif and another coworker of taking the attachment, which they denied. After returning to the vehicle to search for the item, Hared continued to accuse them, stating, "No one's going home today."
Surveillance footage showed that the two men had separated before a second confrontation occurred, during which Hared drew his handgun. A witness reported that Cariif attempted to grab the weapon, and during the struggle, Hared fired two shots, with the second shot striking Cariif in the chest. Cariif died at the scene from injuries to his heart, lung, and aorta.
Hared was initially charged with second-degree intentional murder but later pleaded guilty to the lesser charge. Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena described the killing as senseless, emphasizing that it stemmed from a trivial matter. Hared has been credited for 700 days already served and will be transferred to the Minnesota Department of Corrections.
