Maryland police respond to carjacking incident involving suspect

<p>Body camera footage has been released showing an alleged carjacking suspect driving toward Maryland police officers, striking an officer and multiple vehicles before officers discharged their firearms as she attempted to flee.</p><p>Police in Anne Arundel County responded on May 7 at around 9 p.m. to the area of North Crain Highway and 11th Avenue in Glen Burnie for a report of a hit-and-run. Upon arrival, officers learned that a woman had crashed her car into another vehicle before forcibly taking the vehicle belonging to a family member who had arrived to assist her.</p><p>The woman, identified as Jasmin L. Cooper, 28, was later found inside the vehicle on the 8500 block of Severn.</p><p>In the footage, officers can be seen pointing their firearms at Cooper, instructing her to "turn the car off" and "get out of the car." At one point, she raises her hands from the wheel but does not exit the vehicle.</p><p>After a brief period, Cooper drove out of the parking space and accelerated away while officers moved out of the way.</p><p>According to police, Cooper drove toward the officers, striking one officer, two patrol cars, and another vehicle, which led officers to discharge their firearms, hitting her.</p><p>Additional responding officers observed Cooper turn onto Reece Road, where she crashed into another vehicle and attempted to break into another occupied vehicle before being apprehended.</p><p>The footage shows Cooper lying on the ground in handcuffs, with officers providing medical assistance for her wound after she was shot in the parking lot.</p><p>Cooper has been charged with carjacking, attempted carjacking, multiple counts of reckless endangerment, first- and second-degree assault, and related charges. Both Cooper and the officer who was struck were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.</p>
