Jake, 35, and Gilfillan made a public appearance together at the premiere of "Things Like This" in New York City in May 2025, although it is unclear how long they have been dating. Jake shared images on Instagram of the couple attending a wedding in Las Vegas in October 2025.
In a recent interview with KABC-TV’s Marc Cota-Robles, Jake was seen wearing a gold band on his left ring finger. He discussed the tragic murder of his parents, Rob and Michele, who were killed in their California home in December 2025. Their middle child, Nick Reiner, 32, has been arrested in connection with the slayings.
During the interview, Jake expressed his feelings of rage and frustration regarding the situation, stating, "It manifests into rage, into how unfair this was, how I didn’t get a say in what happened. I didn’t get to stop it from happening." He mentioned that he has not spoken to Nick since their parents' deaths and described the emotional toll of losing both parents and having his brother involved in the incident.
Jake noted that their parents had always wanted to help Nick, who had struggled with drug abuse and was diagnosed with schizophrenia. He reflected on the loss of his family, saying, "We lost more than half of our family that night in the most violent way imaginable." He emphasized the difficulty of processing the loss, stating, "Sure, any loss of a parent is devastating, but nothing compares to losing both of them at the same time and, on top of that, having your brother be at the center of it."
