Cowboys Waive Quarterback Joe Milton, Add Running Back Emari Demercado

The Dallas Cowboys have made changes to their roster, waiving quarterback Joe Milton and claiming running back Emari Demercado off waivers from the Kansas City Chiefs. This decision follows the release of running backs Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah on Sunday. Milton, who had a strong preseason, completed 29 of 43 passes for 378 yards and three touchdowns. He joined the Cowboys in a trade with the New England Patriots prior to the 2025 season after struggling for playing time behind quarterbacks Drake Maye and Jacoby Brissett. ESPN reported that the Cowboys had considered trade options before the roster cut. With the addition of Demercado, who previously played for the Arizona Cardinals, the Cowboys now have two running backs on the roster, Malik Davis being the other. Demercado has rushed 126 times for 819 yards and three touchdowns in his NFL career, along with 50 receptions for 324 yards and one receiving touchdown. One notable incident in his career occurred last season when he dropped the ball before crossing the goal line against the Tennessee Titans, which led to a significant shift in the game's outcome, resulting in a loss for the Cardinals. Following that play, ex-Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon received a $100,000 fine for his reaction.
