<p class="wp-block-paragraph">House Speaker <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/mike-johnson/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Mike Johnson</a> (R-LA) affirmed his support for Rep. <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/max-miller/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Max Miller</a>’s (R-OH) reelection campaign despite allegations of <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/domestic-violence/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">domestic violence</a> and child abuse.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When asked on Monday if he supported Miller, Johnson responded, “yes,” and described Miller as a “great member of Congress.”</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“He has some issues in his personal life he’s working through,” Johnson stated, noting that the House Ethics Committee is conducting an investigation into the allegations.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“We have to let due process play out,” Johnson added.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Johnson typically defers to ethics investigations when addressing allegations against members of his party.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Miller has been accused by his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, the daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH), of abusing her and their 2-year-old daughter. Miller has denied these allegations and continues his reelection campaign despite calls for him to withdraw.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Miller has attempted to refute the accusations made by his wife, which include claims of throwing hot water from a skillet at her, holding a gun to her head, and fracturing their daughter’s collarbone, labeling them as “politically motivated” earlier this week.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Earlier this month, Miller requested a House Ethics Committee investigation into himself, stating he would “file my own paperwork for an ethics investigation into myself to clear my name from these horrific attacks on myself and family.”</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“I have absolutely nothing to hide,” Miller wrote on X.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The House Ethics Committee announced its investigation into Miller on August 4, indicating it is looking into allegations of domestic violence and illegal drug use.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">However, the committee’s findings are not expected to be released before the November elections, as the panel’s reelection 60-day blackout period began on September 4. The Ethics Committee’s investigations often take months or years to complete.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Miller previously stated that Johnson was still supporting him during an interview on CNN, claiming that the speaker and “everyone else” were “standing behind” him.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“No one has told me to get off the ballot, and that’s because they know I can win this seat,” Miller said.</p>
