Former Teacher Banned for Providing Student with Hidden Camera Pen

A former teacher in Warwickshire, Matthew Udall, 33, has been indefinitely banned from teaching after giving a young female student a pen equipped with a hidden camera. Reports indicate that Udall instructed the girl to change clothes before using the pen to write in her journal. The Teaching Regulation Agency released a report stating that Udall's actions in July 2022 were sexually motivated and had the potential to cause serious harm to the pupil. In 2024, Udall pleaded guilty to inciting or causing a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity and attempting to observe a person doing a private act. He was sentenced to 31 months in prison. The panel noted that there was no indication that the girl was deceived by the hidden camera, as she informed a friend and another teacher about the incident. The panel also mentioned that there was no evidence showing that Udall expressed remorse for his actions and that he attempted to conceal his actions by instructing the girl not to inform her parents. Udall has 28 days to appeal the panel's decision.
