<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Former Obama adviser Rahm Emanuel stated that he does not consider socialists to be part of the Democratic Party, marking a notable divergence from efforts to create a big-tent party that includes its left flank.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In an appearance on Fox News Sunday, Emanuel expressed his opposition to the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), suggesting they should be excluded from the party rather than embraced.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“I don’t consider democratic socialists part of the Democratic Party,” he said.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Emanuel criticized the DSA's positions, stating, “They believe in defunding the police, letting prisoners out of prisons, opening the borders, eliminating the Pentagon. If you’re so confident that people want that, I’ll see you in November. Put it on the ballot. Let’s go. Run as a separate party.”</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">His comments contrast with the views of many Democratic leaders, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senators Chris Murphy and Chris Van Hollen, who advocate for a more inclusive party.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Schumer has been a prominent supporter of the big-tent approach, stating, “Look, we are a big tent party, and being a big tent party is a strength, not a weakness.”</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Van Hollen echoed this sentiment, saying, “We have a big tent party. This is a democracy. You’re going to have lots of perspectives. It’s up to the voters to decide, and they did.”</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Murphy emphasized the importance of inclusivity, suggesting that the party should encompass a wide range of perspectives, including the DSA.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Emanuel has positioned himself within the party by responding to cultural criticisms of the Democratic establishment, arguing that a disconnect from mainstream views could jeopardize the party's future.</p>
