Trump threatens to report NBC journalist Kristen Welker to FCC

In a post on Truth Social on Sunday, Trump criticized Welker for stating that his endorsements had 'mixed results' in the primaries. He shared a chart, without attribution, claiming that 98 percent of his endorsed candidates had won their elections. Trump stated, 'Because of this purposeful inaccuracy, she will be reported to the FCC.' Welker previously hosted the 2020 presidential debate between Trump and Joe Biden and currently leads NBC’s 'Meet the Press.' Trump has a history of contentious interactions with major news networks, previously labeling them as 'crooked.' This month, Disney, the owner of ABC News, filed a lawsuit against the FCC, alleging that the agency's review of its stations was retaliatory. Trump has also pursued multiple defamation lawsuits against various news outlets, including a $10 billion lawsuit against the BBC and a $15 billion lawsuit against The New York Times. Additionally, the Trump administration has faced criticism for its attempts to compel journalists to disclose confidential sources, with recent reports indicating that the FBI issued subpoenas to reporters from The New York Times. Media freedom organizations have condemned the Trump administration's actions, noting a decline in press freedom rankings in the US.
