Cowboys Acquire Offensive Tackle Broderick Jones from Steelers

The Dallas Cowboys have acquired offensive tackle Broderick Jones from the Pittsburgh Steelers, as reported on Saturday. In exchange for Jones, the Steelers received third- and sixth-round draft picks in 2027, along with a fourth-round pick from the Cowboys in the same year. Jones was selected by the Steelers as the No. 14 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and has started 38 of the 45 games he has played in his first three seasons. His previous season was cut short due to a neck injury sustained during a Week 12 game against the Bears. Although he has been medically cleared for the upcoming season, reports indicate that Jones, 25, has experienced a loss of strength following spinal fusion surgery. During training camp in June, Jones mentioned that he is focused on regaining his strength and weight. "I’m still working through it," Jones stated. "I wouldn’t say I’m where I want to be at. Just trying to get back in shape and putting the weight back on in the right places." Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy expressed confidence in Jones's abilities, stating that he believes Jones remains a "starter-level" player. "I think it speaks volume for Broderick and what he’s been doing here the last couple of months," McCarthy said. "So I just think, like anything, when a player comes off of a medical clearance, you can’t just go to a hundred miles an hour. … Broderick, he’s been a starter here."
