Jordan Love Calls Offensive Plays in Second Half, Leads Packers to Comeback Victory

<p>In the Green Bay Packers' final preseason game, quarterback Jordan Love took on the role of play-caller in the second half, contributing to the team's 42-38 victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Friday night. Head coach Matt LaFleur approached Love about this decision on the field before the game.</p><p>LaFleur stated, "I just went up to him. It’s not like he had time to prep. I was just like, ‘Hey, you want to call the second half?’ He said, ‘Sure. Yeah, I’ll do it.’ And he did it and he did an outstanding job."</p><p>Under Love's direction, the Packers overcame an 11-point deficit in the final 3.5 minutes to secure the win. LaFleur noted Love's composure during the game, saying, "(Offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich) called the first half, did an outstanding job, and then we had J-Love call the second half. That was pretty cool, to hear his demeanor on the headset and how calm, cool and collected he was throughout the entire game, especially during those critical moments. That’s not a surprise to me because that’s what we see on the field, too."</p><p>Packers third-string quarterback Kyle McCord played the entire game while Love and backup Tyrod Taylor rested. McCord completed 22 of 35 passes for 226 yards and four touchdowns. McCord, a sixth-round pick in 2025 who spent last season on the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad, expressed hope that his performance would help him secure a spot on the final 53-man roster, stating, "It's out of my control at this point. I did everything that I could've to make a case for myself. And so now we just wait and see."</p><p>With Love calling the plays, McCord's performance may bolster his chances of making the 53-man roster.</p><p><em>The Associated Press contributed to this report.</em></p>
