Oklahoma Rep. Stephanie Bice Expresses Concerns About Trump's Impact on GOP

Stephanie Bice, a Republican seeking re-election, has expressed concerns that President Donald Trump's executive actions may negatively affect the party's standing, including in traditionally secure districts. Bice made these comments during a meeting with college students, as reported by The Bulwark.</p><p>Bice criticized Trump's decision to rename Lake Ontario and his disputes with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, stating, "We’re not helping ourselves today when we decide to rename Lake Ontario ‘Lake America.’ I mean, yeah, these are not—this does not help the case, right?"</p><p>Her district has an R+9 rating according to the Cook Political Report, but Bice indicated that Trump’s declining approval ratings could lead to lower voter turnout among Republicans in her Central Oklahoma district. She noted, "The challenge that we have is that we have to get over the narrative that ‘I don’t like this guy, so I’m going to vote for the Democrat.’ Because I’m telling you right now, I’m hearing it already."</p><p>Bice elaborated on her concerns, stating that voters may either choose to vote for the Democrat or abstain from voting altogether, which could impact her re-election chances. She mentioned that a Republican executive expressed feeling "Trump fatigue," which Bice acknowledged as a valid sentiment.</p><p>A spokesman for Bice's campaign clarified that she was sharing a comment made by someone else and emphasized the importance of Republican voter turnout. The spokesman stated, "Congresswoman Bice strongly supports President Trump and his work to secure the border, rebuild our economy, strengthen our military, and put America First. She is proud to have his endorsement and looks forward to continuing to fight with the president to defeat the Democrat socialists. Any suggestion otherwise takes her comments out of context."</p><p>Bice has previously voted against impeaching Trump following the January 6 Capitol riot and has maintained a close alignment with him, having been photographed with Trump in the Oval Office in May 2025. Trump endorsed Bice's re-election campaign in March, referring to her as a "Highly Respected America First Congresswoman" and assuring his followers that "SHE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!"</p>
