Tony Romo Faces Additional Citations Following OWI Arrest

<p>Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was arrested in July on charges of allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He was stopped on a highway and reportedly did not perform well during field sobriety tests administered by police.</p><p>Romo was released and is scheduled to appear in court in September. Following the arrest, CBS Sports announced that he would be placed on leave from his broadcasting duties until further notice.</p><p>According to a report from the New York Post, Romo is now facing several additional citations in Milwaukee related to the arrest. Newly filed court records indicate that he faces charges of first-offense operating while intoxicated, unsafe passing on the right side, and possessing open intoxicants inside his vehicle.</p><p>A spokesperson for Romo stated that he "accepts full responsibility" for the incident and emphasized that it is a civil matter, not a criminal one. The spokesperson added, "Tony accepts full responsibility for his actions and has taken proactive steps to ensure that this isolated civil matter is properly resolved. We are working with local authorities to bring this matter to a close and we are communicating with CBS about next steps."</p><p>Following the arrest, speculation arose regarding Romo's future in the CBS broadcast booth. Former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason suggested that Romo may need to move on and resolve the situation. Esiason stated, "If I had to guess, purely speculation given what’s going on right now, I would think it’s over. He may end up going somewhere else and getting things straightened out."</p><p>CBS Sports president David Berson commented that the situation is still evolving and that it remains unclear when or if Romo will return to the booth with CBS. Berson noted, "It’s an evolving situation and therefore we are still assessing. There is no timetable or final decision at this time." He added, "I hope you can respect and appreciate this is a personnel matter and a legal one for Tony, so I can’t speak to that aspect of things."</p><p>The new citations may impact Romo's chances of returning to broadcasting.</p>
