Suspected human smugglers lead authorities on high-speed chase in Texas

<p>Two suspected human smugglers led authorities on a high-speed chase reaching 100 mph in Texas on Thursday before exiting their vehicle, with one allegedly committing an armed carjacking, according to law enforcement.</p><p>Helicopter footage from U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Air and Marine Operations captured the pursuit along Interstate 10 in Fabens.</p><p>During the chase, authorities pursued the suspects until their vehicle was disabled, prompting both occupants to flee on foot.</p><p>An official was heard over radio communications indicating that the vehicle's front right tire may have been damaged by a spike strip.</p><p>As the vehicle slowed, both men exited and ran across the highway, with one being quickly apprehended by a member of the Texas Department of Public Safety.</p><p>The second suspect allegedly carjacked a civilian at gunpoint before being taken into custody, according to authorities.</p><p>Details regarding the number of individuals being smuggled or their nationalities have not been disclosed.</p><p>CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott commended the coordination among Border Patrol, AMO, HSI, and Texas DPS on social media, stating, "Suspected human smugglers hit 100+ mph and bailed out when their vehicle was disabled. One then carjacked a civilian at gunpoint. Smugglers risk lives for profit.
