Astros Rehire Former Pitching Coach Brent Strom as Consultant

Brent Strom, 77, has returned to the Houston Astros organization as a pitching consultant for the remainder of the season. Strom previously served as the Astros' pitching coach for eight years and is recognized for his contributions to the team's pitching development. Manager Joe Espada expressed enthusiasm about Strom's return, stating he is eager to benefit from Strom's experience and perspective as the team aims to secure the division title. Strom will join the team in New York for their upcoming series against the Mets, where he is expected to be present in the dugout during games. The Astros' pitching staff has struggled this season, currently ranking 25th in Major League Baseball with a 4.65 ERA. Despite this, the Astros hold a one-game lead in the AL West with a .500 record. Espada emphasized Strom's extensive experience with both young and veteran pitchers, noting his previous success in the World Series as a valuable asset for the team as they seek to improve performance and finish the season strong.
