<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Jake Reiner, the eldest son of the late Rob and Michele Reiner, spoke publicly about his parents’ deaths for the first time since his father, a filmmaker, and mother, a photographer, were found stabbed to death in their Los Angeles home.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Jake Reiner’s younger brother, Nick Reiner, faces charges of murdering their parents in December 2025, to which he has pleaded not guilty. Los Angeles law enforcement officials arrested Nick Reiner on two charges of first-degree murder two days after his parents were found deceased. In mid-August, a Los Angeles County grand jury indicted Nick Reiner on two first-degree murder charges, alleging that he was lying in wait before the killing.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Jake Reiner participated in an interview with ABC7 Los Angeles on Thursday, discussing how his surviving family has grieved during the months following his parents’ deaths.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“I got to be honest. I mean, it’s been eight months — it feels like eight years at the same time, and it also feels like eight minutes because every moment that I wake up, I’m reminded of my reality. And you’re living through that every single day,” Jake Reiner stated during the interview.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">He also mentioned his siblings, explaining that he learned of his parents’ passing from his younger sister, Romy Reiner, the youngest of the three siblings.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“Romy told me our dad was dead, and then she said, ‘I can’t find Mom,'” Jake Reiner recalled.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Jake Reiner described the significant changes in his family dynamics following the deaths of his parents.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“It’s like I physically lost my parents, and then Nick was arrested, and it’s like now it’s just me and Romy,” he said.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The August grand jury indictment allows the case to skip a preliminary hearing in which prosecutors typically publicly unveil evidence, according to the Associated Press. The “lying in wait” circumstance associated with the other murder charges in the indictment makes Nick Reiner eligible for the death penalty, although prosecutors have not yet determined if they will pursue capital punishment.</p>
