Josh Jacobs Charged with Misdemeanors Following Domestic Abuse Arrest

<p>Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs faces two misdemeanor charges filed on Thursday by the Brown County (Wisconsin) District Attorney in connection to a May domestic abuse arrest. Jacobs is facing one count of battery and one count of criminal damage to property, according to Wisconsin court records. Each charge carries a potential penalty of up to nine months in jail if Jacobs is convicted.</p><p>The charges were filed by District Attorney David L. Lasee three months after Jacobs was arrested following a domestic incident at his home near Green Bay on May 23. Initially, Jacobs was booked on felony strangulation/suffocation, domestic-abuse battery, domestic-abuse criminal damage to property, domestic-abuse disorderly conduct, and intimidation of a victim.</p><p>Lasee stated that the investigation led to the filing of lesser charges instead of the felony charge. The battery charge is based on evidence that Jacobs allegedly caused bodily harm to his ex-girlfriend, while the second charge relates to damage to her phone.</p><p>Lasee emphasized that a criminal complaint is a formal accusation and does not imply guilt. He noted that Jacobs is presumed innocent until proven guilty and that further comments would not be made due to the ongoing nature of the case.</p><p>Jacobs' attorneys released a statement indicating that the District Attorney's decision to file misdemeanor charges, which do not include domestic violence, reflects a thorough review of the evidence. They stated, "The allegations will be addressed in court, and not in the media. Mr. Jacobs respects the District Attorney's office and the process it followed."</p><p>The NFL is monitoring the situation and may impose discipline under its Personal Conduct Policy, regardless of the legal outcome. Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst mentioned that the team is prepared for various scenarios, including the possibility of a suspension for Jacobs during the 2026 season. Currently, MarShawn Lloyd serves as the backup running back, having played only one regular-season game in his career.</p>
