<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Former New Hampshire Republican Senator John Sununu does not plan to attend the inaugural 2026 Republican midterm election convention, at least for now.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Sununu, also a former congressman, is running in the Granite State’s Republican Senate primary election against former Massachusetts senator and former U.S. Ambassador to New Zealand, Scott Brown.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Brown did not respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment regarding whether he expects to attend the convention in Dallas.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The primary is scheduled for September 8, just a day before the two-day midterm election convention begins.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The New Hampshire Republican primary is not the only event on the calendar that could create scheduling conflicts around the convention.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The opening game of the 2026 NFL regular season between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots is on September 9, which may impact television ratings during Vice President JD Vance’s convention address.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">President Donald Trump is scheduled to appear on September 9 before delivering his own primetime remarks on September 10.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Sununu is polling significantly ahead of Brown, with an average lead of 33 percentage points, according to RealClearPolitics’ poll aggregation.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Sununu and likely Democratic nominee Rep. Chris Pappas (D-NH) are in a statistical tie, with Pappas averaging a 2-point lead before the November general election to replace Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH).</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Sununu, whose father and brother were both former governors of New Hampshire, served in Congress from 1997 to 2003 and in the Senate from 2003 to 2009.</p>
