Cameron Brink criticizes Enes Kanter Freedom over comments on trans athletes

Cameron Brink, a forward for the Los Angeles Sparks, publicly criticized Enes Kanter Freedom following his recent comments regarding transgender athletes in the WNBA. After practice on Wednesday, Brink stated, "For me personally, when it comes to the trans issues I believe you’re talking about, I think it’s a non-issue and it’s people trying to just come for the trans community, and I just don’t stand for that." Brink referred to Freedom as a "stupid piece of s—t" during her remarks to WNBA reporter Jarrod Castillo of The Mirror US. She expressed concern that Freedom is attempting to gain attention by targeting the trans community, stating, "I think taking something that’s like a non-issue right now and trying to use it for clickbait, for views, for likes, and then targeting a vulnerable community is just really low." Throughout her three-year career, Brink has been an advocate for her teammates' gender identities and has spoken about the advantages that white players have over players of color. Brink emphasized the importance of acceptance, saying, "I want everyone to be accepted — not just paid attention to because of how they look." On Sunday, Freedom was removed from an Indiana Fever vs Chicago Sky game after a verbal exchange with Natash Cloud. Freedom claimed he was present to support women, not for personal reasons. On August 7, he announced his intention to enter the WNBA Draft as a transgender player, despite the league currently having no players identifying as transgender.
