President Donald Trump proposed hosting a large rally to celebrate the United States' 250th anniversary after several artists withdrew from a planned concert. In a post on Truth Social, Trump suggested canceling the Freedom 250 concerts associated with the Great American State Fair, criticizing a federal judge who ordered his name to be removed from the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Trump expressed his preference for a rally over the concert, stating, "We should have a giant MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN RALLY, for 250, instead of having overpriced singers, who nobody wants to hear."
The Freedom 250 event is scheduled to take place from June 25 to July 10, 2026, on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Several artists, including Martina McBride and Bret Michaels, have announced their withdrawal from the concert. Trump mentioned the possibility of delivering a speech at the event, stating that he would prefer to be surrounded by "Happy People, Smart People, Successful People."
Freedom 250 later confirmed that Trump would deliver a speech on June 24 to kick off the celebrations, as stated by spokeswoman Danielle Alvarez.
