Trump Discusses MLB Labor Talks and Advocates for Roger Clemens' Hall of Fame Induction

<p>Major League Baseball (MLB) is nearing the end of its regular season, with labor negotiations between the league and the MLB Players Association reportedly stalled, leading to uncertainty ahead of the playoffs. The current agreement is set to expire on December 1. If a new deal is not reached by then, a lockout could occur. ESPN reported in July that the primary disagreement revolves around the league's desire for a salary cap system, which the union is likely to oppose, as both sides appear unwilling to compromise.</p><p>President Donald Trump has expressed opinions on sports during his second term. In March, he held a "Saving College Sports" roundtable, which included conference leaders, former coaches, and media executives to discuss issues related to name, image, and likeness deals, the transfer portal, and the future of the NCAA.</p><p>During MLB All-Star weekend, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred was asked about Trump's potential involvement in the league's labor negotiations. Manfred stated he did not want to speculate on Trump's involvement but acknowledged Trump's interest in the situation.</p><p>Trump has also been a vocal advocate for Roger Clemens' induction into the Hall of Fame. In a post on Truth Social, Trump highlighted Clemens' career achievements and criticized Hall of Fame voters for excluding him. Trump stated, "How about Roger Clemens not being in the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York, all because a bunch of jealous people with far less Talent, voted that he shouldn't be there. He was also not convicted, or admitted, to taking Drugs. Roger is easily one of the few Greatest Pitchers of All Time, winning 354 Games, 7 Cy Young Awards (A Record, by 3!), and played in three World Series, winning two! He was third in most Strike-Outs."</p><p>Trump further claimed that Manfred had indicated he would approve Pete Rose’s reinstatement but delayed the decision until after Rose's death. Last year, Manfred announced that Rose and "Shoeless" Joe Jackson would be reinstated, making them eligible for Hall of Fame consideration.</p><p>Trump concluded by questioning the current state of baseball, stating, "No wonder Baseball is in trouble!"</p><p>Almost a year ago, on August 24, Trump mentioned playing golf with Clemens and his son, Kacy, and reiterated his support for Clemens' Hall of Fame candidacy, stating that Clemens "should be in the Baseball Hall of Fame, NOW!" Clemens responded on X, expressing gratitude for Trump's support and acknowledging the challenges posed by media narratives.</p><p>Clemens’ eligibility for the Hall of Fame ended in 2022 after receiving 65.2% support from voters, falling short of the 75% required for election.</p>
