Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) stated on Wednesday that she hopes progressive streamer Hasan Piker will not visit Michigan as the election approaches.

Piker has faced backlash for his comments regarding American Jews, which have been condemned by various political figures. He has been active on the campaign trail, including appearances with Michigan Senate nominee Abdul el Sayed prior to the state's primary elections.

During an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, Dingell expressed her desire to avoid Piker's involvement in Michigan's campaign activities, stating she is "tired of people trying to drag me into" the controversy surrounding him.

“I strongly disagree with many of the things that Hasan Piker said, from Israel to, quite frankly, if you’re a woman who has fought against sexual violence and domestic violence her whole life, what he has said about rape, et cetera, is simply inexcusable,” Dingell remarked.

She added, “I pray we’re not going to see him in Michigan from now until the election.”

Piker recently sparked outrage among Democrats after stating that “eventually, someone is going to come around and take action … against American Jews” if they continue to present themselves as singularly invested in Israel.

Dingell emphasized that it is important for el Sayed to clarify that he does not agree with Piker’s statements. El Sayed distanced himself from Piker’s comments in a statement, asserting that “nobody speaks for this campaign besides me and my campaign spokespeople,” but did not fully condemn Piker.

He stated, “And while politicians and pundits try to make this race about a Twitch streamer, we’re going to be talking about gas, groceries, good schools, and healthcare. Because that’s what Michiganders keep asking about.”

Dingell, who is running for her seventh congressional term, argued that many of Piker’s views are “just wrong,” and emphasized that the election will focus on reversing healthcare cuts and addressing issues such as food insecurity and healthcare access.

She expressed confusion over Piker's followers, suggesting it may be a generational issue.

Dingell has not campaigned with Piker but attended an event featuring him and el Sayed in April to gauge el Sayed’s momentum, according to the Associated Press.

At that event, Dingell noted the turnout but expressed skepticism about the sustainability of the movement, questioning whether it would resonate with voters.

The Washington Examiner has reached out to Piker for comment.
