Matt Gogel Suspended for Six Months for Betting on PGA Tour Events

PGA Tour Champions player Matt Gogel has been suspended for six months for placing bets on PGA Tour events. Gogel, 55, stated that he unknowingly placed "small recreational wagers on golf" in 2024 and 2025. He clarified, "I want to be clear that these wagers were not placed on regular PGA Tour events, PGA Tour Champions events or any tournament in which I participated," in a statement released by the PGA Tour. Gogel emphasized that he would never knowingly violate the integrity of the game of golf and referred to the situation as an honest mistake, expressing his intention to return to play in 2027 on the PGA Tour Champions. The PGA Tour confirmed that Gogel did not bet on tournaments in which he participated but still violated the integrity program by wagering on PGA-sanctioned events. The Tour noted that Gogel has cooperated throughout the entire process. His suspension began on Sunday and will last until February 22, 2027. Gogel's only win on the PGA Tour occurred in 2002 at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He was a golf commentator for The Golf Channel and CBS Sports before leaving broadcasting after turning 50 to join the PGA Tour Champions. Gogel finished 30th at the recent Rogers Charity Classic and placed T2 at last month’s ISPS Handa Senior Open, one of the majors on the senior circuit. He is currently ranked 20th in the Charles Schwab Cup points race and has earned over $760,000 this season.
