Florida Congressional Race Between Rep. Jared Moskowitz and Scott Singer Draws National Attention

<p>Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla., is competing in the race for the newly-redrawn 25th Congressional District in South Florida against Republican nominee Scott Singer. This district is seen as a key target for Republicans in a closely divided Congress.</p><p>"We're going to be very prepared to go flip this seat – it is a key targeted seat," Singer stated in an interview with Fox News Digital.</p><p>He emphasized that this district could play a significant role in determining the balance of power in the House of Representatives.</p><p>The race is attracting national attention and financial support from Democrats as they aim to maintain their majority, with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries highlighting the importance of the seat.</p><p>"A lot of people in this district and beyond understand what's at stake here," Singer, a former Boca Raton mayor, remarked.</p><p>Moskowitz, who currently represents the more Democratic-friendly 23rd District, is also Jewish and pro-Israel. However, he faces challenges in a district that has become more favorable to Republicans. Singer noted that Moskowitz must contend with the "anti-Israel wing" of the Democratic Party.</p><p>"His voting record speaks volumes," Singer claimed, suggesting that Moskowitz has aligned more closely with Democratic leadership on various issues.</p><p>Moskowitz countered by stating that he has successfully navigated challenges from the Democratic Socialists of America in his primary and has $2 million in cash reserves for the general election. He expressed confidence in having national resources to defend his seat.</p><p>"I go after my party all the time and fight within," Moskowitz said, adding that Singer has not been vocal on social media regarding certain political factions.</p><p>Despite their past relationship, Moskowitz accused Singer of lacking clear positions on issues. Singer's campaign has denied any personal endorsement beyond a general expression of support.</p><p>According to Singer, the newly redrawn district has a growing GOP voter registration advantage and divisions within the Democratic Party may hinder Moskowitz's chances. He noted that many voters are shifting away from the Democratic Party due to its current direction.</p><p>"People are abandoning the Democratic Party because the mainstream Democratic Party of even a few years ago has abandoned them," Singer stated.</p><p>The race is classified as one of 19 toss-ups nationally, with the Cook Political Report indicating that it is now about five points more Republican than Democratic.</p><p>"We have a great opportunity to pick off disaffected Democrats who are sick with the socialist lean," Singer added, referencing the district's significant population of residents who have fled communism.</p><p>Both candidates are Jewish, competing in a district where approximately 25% of the electorate is Jewish, one of the highest concentrations in the country. Singer argued that the Democratic Party's stance on Israel could negatively impact their chances in this district.</p><p>"The anti-Israel wing, which has taken root in the Democratic Party, is doing the convincing for us," Singer said, citing recent trends among Democratic incumbents regarding Israel.</p><p>He also pointed out that the district is largely independent, running along South Florida's Atlantic coast through parts of Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties.</p><p>"I have deep ties in this district. It's my whole life. I've lived 40-plus years in this District in all three counties," Singer remarked.</p><p>Moskowitz resides in Parkland and was raised in Coral Springs, which are now outside the newly drawn district boundaries.</p><p>In the 2024 election, Trump would have carried the district by approximately nine points, indicating a shift toward conservatism since Biden won it by about five points in 2020.</p><p>"Independent voters have a choice," Singer concluded, emphasizing the importance of economic issues in the upcoming election.</p>
