A man suspected of killing five people in a rural area outside Portland, Oregon, was found dead inside a vehicle in Enumclaw, Washington, on August 20, 2026, in an apparent suicide, according to authorities. Benjamin Charles Parker, 36, was identified as the suspect after the bodies of five individuals were discovered on August 19 at a home near Forest Grove, Oregon, approximately 25 miles west of Portland.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office stated that officers from the Enumclaw Police Department located Parker’s vehicle and found him deceased inside. The sheriff's office indicated that there is no known threat to the public.
It remains unclear how investigators were led to Parker or what connection he had to the victims. Detectives do not believe the killings were random, but details regarding Parker's alleged connection to the victims or a possible motive have not been publicly disclosed.
The sheriff's office had previously responded to reports of a vehicle fire at a property in Forest Grove, where the remains of five people and several domestic animals were found. Authorities have not released the ages or genders of the victims or how they died. Detective Shannon Wilde noted the complexity of the investigation, stating, "Any time you have one person deceased, let alone five, that's a logistical challenge."
Sheriff Caprice Massey urged anyone with information about the property or the individuals involved to contact authorities. A dozen law enforcement agencies are assisting in the ongoing investigation.
